Unparalleled Experience

Unparalleled Experience

The BTO team knows the river, the bugs, and the fish. Our experience is proven through countless days on our water through the years, developing a consistent recipe for tight lines and big smiles. Sun, wind, and shine; our guides can put you on fish every time.

Blue Ribbon Streams

The North Platte River and Big Horn River produce fish of significant size and/or numbers. Blue ribbon streams in Wyoming are classified as any stream with more than 600 pounds of trout per mile.

Our fisheries boast large average fish sizes in comparison to other fisheries nationwide. The average rainbow can be from 16-18 inches and around 2-3 pounds.

Operating year round on tailwaters of the North Platte River in Alcova WY, and tailwaters of the Big Horn River in Thermopolis, WY.

Day Trips

Bucktrout Outfitters strives to offer a day trip that will be memorable. We often float longer stretches, get on the water earlier, and provide you with a standalone experience. We do our best to leave the crowd in the dust and provide you with the feeling of having the river all to yourself.

Bucktrout Outfitters offers a variety of different tailwater destinations to our fishing guests. Check out the description of each tailwater, the type of water from each location, available access, and the species of fish we target.

Our client

I was on a group float trip two years ago and was fortunate to draw Chris as our guide.  Since then I have fished with Chris on five additional trips, his knowledge of the river, his ability to put you on fish and his guiding style makes for a great experience.   If you’re going to spend a day in the boat with someone, make it Chris, you will have a good  time, catch some great fish and enjoy the company.

Chris is arguably one of the finest hunting and fishing guides I have ever been associated with: attention to detail, technical skill sets, anticipation of extremes, situational awareness, remarkable intelligence and insight, weather variables, safety variables, knowledge of local conditions and actors, none of these escape him. What is most unique about Chris, regards his personality. He has that unique brand of patience and empathy, which can incorporate the failures/weaknesses of the client, then turn those deficits back to proactive results. He keeps clients on point, kindly and enthusiastically.

I appreciate how you encourage your clients. You regularly acknowledge a client that does the smallest things correctly. This trait instills confidence and obviously makes the trip enjoyable. I also appreciate how you manage instructions to your clients. You always keep the same demeanor and calmly suggest ways to improve. Combine these traits with your knowledge of the water, knowledge of the hatches etc. it makes for a very successful and enjoyable day of fishing. I am so looking forward to our next trip!
